This site is dedicated to the Fincke family who founded Manumit School in 1924 in Pawling NY.
And also to Ben and Billy Fincke and the many teachers and staff who made the idea of Manumit real to the students who were privileged to attend from 1924 through 1957 when the school was forced to close by the actions of the State Board of Private Academic Schools of Pennsylvania.
The History of Manumit
A world order based upon justice and co-operation, in which the individual may find freedom, is the end for which the labor movement is working; and for which certain educators, philosophers, and idealists hope.
The People of Manumit
Manumit seeks to surround its children with happy, homelike associations, and stresses all recreation which is joyous, playful and sane,– in other words truly re-creative.
